There is something incredibly special about destination weddings.
Maybe it’s the slower pace. Maybe it’s the sense of adventure. Or maybe it’s the fact that when couples travel across the world with their closest family and friends, every moment feels just a little more intentional.
At The Pixl Collective, destination weddings have quickly become some of our favourite stories to capture, especially throughout Europe.
As a Canadian wedding photographer with Italian citizenship, photographing weddings abroad feels deeply personal to me. Italy has always held a special place in my life, and being able to combine that connection with photography is something I’m incredibly excited about as we continue expanding into the European destination wedding space.
One of the biggest advantages for couples planning a wedding in Europe is that I am legally able to work throughout Italy and across the European Union. That means fewer complications surrounding visas, permits, and travel logistics, while still giving couples the experience of working with a photographer who understands North American wedding culture, communication styles, and expectations.
For many Canadian and American couples planning a destination wedding overseas, that balance matters more than they initially realize.
Planning a wedding in another country can already feel overwhelming enough. Between language barriers, travel coordination, timelines, vendors, and unfamiliar locations, having a photographer who understands both sides of the experience can make the process feel significantly smoother and more comfortable.
One of the things we hear most often from destination wedding couples is how important communication and trust become throughout the planning process. Working with a photographer from back home often creates a sense of familiarity and connection that helps couples feel more at ease leading up to the wedding day.
At the same time, we absolutely love immersing ourselves in the atmosphere and culture that make European weddings so unique.
Whether it’s a masseria wedding in Puglia, a villa overlooking Lake Como, a countryside celebration in Tuscany, or an intimate coastal wedding along the Amalfi Coast, European weddings carry a completely different energy. The architecture, food, scenery, history, and pace of the day all contribute to an experience that feels timeless and unforgettable.
Photographing weddings in these environments also aligns perfectly with our approach to storytelling. Our style blends authentic candid moments with an editorial, true-to-colour aesthetic, allowing us to document weddings in a way that feels emotional, refined, and timeless without ever feeling overly posed.
Some of our favourite destination wedding moments are often the ones in between:

Those are the memories that make destination weddings so powerful.
After getting married in Puglia, Italy myself last September, I also gained an entirely new appreciation for the destination wedding experience from the couple’s perspective. From navigating travel logistics to coordinating guests abroad and experiencing the atmosphere of an Italian wedding firsthand, it gave me a much deeper understanding of what destination couples truly value throughout the process.
That experience only strengthened my passion for photographing weddings throughout Italy and Europe.
We are also incredibly excited to officially photograph our first weddings in Italy next year, with two European destination weddings already booked for the 2027 season. Expanding further into destination weddings across Italy and Europe is something we are deeply passionate about and continuing to build toward.
